AccessBank Tanzania Celebrates its Third Anniversary

Dar es Salaam, 21 November 2010 - AccessBank Tanzania (ABT) is celebrating the third anniversary of its banking operations. The anniversary was celebrated in a staff event on the preceding day. Since opening its door to the public on 21 November 2007, ABT has opened more than 42,500 customer deposit accounts, disbursed more than 14,500 loans totalling close to TZS 50 billion (USD 33.5 million) and is now employing more than 200 staff members in the head office and five branches.

Patrick Schöneborn, ABT's Chief Executive Offer, commented during the anniversary celebrations: "The third anniversary that we are celebrating today marks an important milestone for the Bank. Although we have had our fair share of teething problems, we have overall achieved a very successful market entry and are continuing to grow at a fast pace, with more than 1,800 new clients being added very month. Within just three years we have evolved into a recognised provider of financial services to the lower and medium income clientele, in particular the micro and small enterprises of Dar es Salaam. Our five ATMs are among the most transacted machines in the Umoja ATM network although we are among the youngest banks in the consortium."

The CEO further added that the Bank foresees an ambitious expansion programme for 2011-13 which will include the introduction of a variety of new products as well as the opening of at least six new branches both in Dar es Salaam and in upcountry locations. The Bank's HR Manager, Hance Mapunda, further announced that the Bank is currently preparing the opening of a Training and Skills Development Centre based in its own head office building.

AccessBank Tanzania was established in 2007 by a group of international founding shareholders spearheaded by Germany-based AccessHolding AG. It is part of the globally expanding AccessBank network which has other subsidiaries in four African and two Central Asian countries. The Bank has a paid-up capital of TZS 10 billion (ca. USD 7 million) and operates five branches in the greater Dar es Salaam area.
