LFS Financial Systems GmbH (LFS) is a German consulting and management company. We are specialized in Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) finance projects in developing and transition countries, in particular: (i) founding and managing small business banks (Greenfielding), (ii) implementing and enhancing MSME finance operations, rural and agricultural finance, and housing finance in financial institutions (Downscaling), (iii) and transforming unregulated microfinance institutions into regulated financial institutions and enhancing their internal structures, systems and staff accordingly (Upgrading).

Our specialised know-how as well as our business concept have resulted in rapid growth. On the basis of our successful strategy, we expect to strengthen our position as one of the leading consulting and management firms in the area of financial systems development.
Our main clients and partners are international financial institutions and development agencies such as the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the European Investment Bank (EIB), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), KfW Development Bank, the World Bank and the UK Department for International Development (DFID).

The LFS Head Office is in Berlin. LFS currently has project offices in Azerbaijan, Indonesia, Madagascar, Liberia, Nigeria, Romania, Russia North Caucasus region, Tajikistan and Tanzania. LFS is managed by Dr. Bernd Zattler, Dan Balke and Thomas Engelhardt, who are senior experts in the field of financial systems development. Our international team of permanent staff is mainly composed of economists with profound experience in banking and development finance as well as an excellent knowledge of foreign languages.

In 2006 LFS established with a group of international investors Access Microfinance Holding AG (AccessHolding) as a new strategic investor in the microfinance industry. AccessHolding is building a network of small business banks worldwide. Investments are taken to success through a combination of growth capital, holding services and technical assistance. Over time, AccessHolding will evolve into a controlling parent company of the network banks, which will set industry standards in terms of professionalism, customer service and commercial return.
